We have found guinea pigs are excellent for pet therapy- they calmly sit while they are stroked and fed and can help calm and comfort those fussing them. We sometimes take the calmest ones into nursing homes for the elderly to enjoy for a few hours. It’s especially lovely hearing the residents recall their tales of childhood as the animals remind them of times past and bring back memories often of childhood pets.
They have also been into schools and preschools where we have been able to show young children how to stroke them (under strict supervision) and talk to them about how to care for the animals.
Our little team include some real characters such as Panda, Lloyd, Joey and Monster as well as Cookie, Custard, Elma, Wilma and Domino.
